This week, we had the immense pleasure of hosting our annual “Volunteer Thank You” celebration.
It was our Committee’s small way of saying a massive “Thank You” to the heart and soul of Clipsham Yew Tree Avenue (CYTA), our incredible team of volunteers.
Without their generosity, enthusiasm, and tireless efforts, the daily upkeep, special projects, and overall magic of the Avenue would not be possible.
Progress Thanks to The National Lottery Heritage Fund
Our Chairman, Dr Patrick Candler, was thrilled to provide an update on the fantastic progress achieved over the last year, which has been significantly boosted by the generous support of The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
Our Volunteers’ efforts, combined with this vital funding, have allowed us to make crucial strides, including:
Running essential practical Topiary workshops.
Ensuring the Yew Trees receive professional clipping.
Undertaking the delicate work of reshaping existing patterns and introducing exciting new patterns for visitors to enjoy.
A Special Thank You to Our Hosts
We must also extend a warm shoutout to Sue & Will Stanton at The Castle Inn, Castle Bytham, for hosting our celebration. Their hospitality made the event truly special!
️ Volunteers in Action: What We Achieved in 2025
The sheer range of activities carried out by our volunteers this year is astounding. You are the backbone of our operation, tackling jobs large and small with dedication:
CYTA Working Parties: This included essential clean-up of the Yew Trees, pruning hedgerows, and tirelessly clearing encroaching nettles and thorns to keep the paths clear.
Volunteer Surveys: Collecting crucial data and feedback to help us plan and improve future activities.
The Essential Clean-Up: We all agree it’s the job we hate, but know we have to do – cleaning up other people’s dog waste! Thank you for keeping the Avenue clean and beautiful for everyone.
Strimming: Ensuring the grass verges and areas around the trees are neatly maintained.
… And the list of invaluable contributions goes on and on!
Join Our Team for 2026! We Need You!
While we celebrate the huge success of 2025, we look ahead to the new year with a greater need for support. To keep the momentum going, continue our conservation work, and maintain the beautiful environment of the Avenue, we urgently need more volunteers in 2026!
If you have a little time to spare and want to contribute to a stunning piece of local heritage, we would absolutely love to hear from you. No experience is necessary—just enthusiasm!
