Clipsham Yew Tree Avenue Car Park Gets a Makeover

The Clipsham Yew Tree Avenue, a local and national treasure, has been a source of wonder and tranquility for generations. Its magnificent, ancient yew trees, sculpted over centuries, provide a unique and breathtaking backdrop for a peaceful stroll. To ensure this natural gem remains accessible and enjoyable for all, the Clipsham Yew Tree Avenue Trustees have undertaken a vital improvement at the site’s car park.

For some time, visitors have noticed that the car park had succumbed to the effects of weather and heavy use. Potholes had become a common sight, and the surface had grown uneven, making both entry and exit a little challenging.

We are delighted to announce that this issue has now been addressed. With the kind support of the Forestry Commission,  a comprehensive resurfacing of the car park using compacted limestone aggregate has been completed. This method was chosen for its durability, its environmental suitability, and its effectiveness in creating a stable and even surface.

The work involved a thorough process of:

• Filling in Potholes: Creating a level foundation.
• Applying Compacted Aggregate: A new layer of robust aggregate was laid down and then heavily compacted. This process bonds the material together, creating a hard-wearing and long-lasting surface that can withstand the rigours of all seasons and regular vehicle traffic.

The result is a significant improvement in the overall user experience. Visitors can now enjoy:

• Improved Access and Egress: Getting in and out of the car park is now a much smoother affair, making the start and end of your visit hassle-free.
• Enhanced Accessibility: The new, even surface provides far better access, ensuring that everyone can more easily get to and from the Yew Tree Avenue.
• A Tidier Welcome: The car park now provides a much more fitting and well-maintained welcome to this stunning natural landmark.

This work has been part of the Clipsham Yew Tree Avenue’s ongoing commitment to managing and maintaining the site.
