Saturday, 24th January 2026 – Do you remember the weather?
Two days before storm Chandra, the weather was bright and sunny, the air was crisp, the tea was hot, and the community spirit was in full bloom at Clipsham Yew Tree Avenue. We held our second volunteer working morning, and we couldn’t be prouder of what our team accomplished in just a few short hours.
Many Hands Make Light Work
Between 9:30 AM and 12:00 PM, our volunteers dived into several essential maintenance tasks. The main focus was on the entrance and carpark area. The old, weathered logs that define our parking spaces were finally retired and replaced with sturdy new ones, ensuring the area remains safe and well-defined for visitors.
Meanwhile, a dedicated “leaf squad” worked through the debris of the season,
And our “poo patrol” ensured that the Avenue remains a clean, pleasant environment for families and dog walkers alike.
The Four-Pawed Supervisors
It wasn’t just humans on the job! We were joined by a couple of “four-pawed wonders” who took their job of moral support very seriously. Whether they were inspecting the new log placements or simply making sure no biscuit went uneaten during the 11:00 AM tea break, they were a vital part of the team.

We even had our grant mentor from The National Heritage Lottery Fund, Scott Sullivan, who visited for the first time to take in the splendour of the Avenue
Why We Do It
Clipsham Yew Tree Avenue is a unique piece of living history, but it requires constant care. From the intricate topiary to the simple maintenance of the grounds, this work is invaluable.
The simple truth is: we cannot do this without you. Our volunteers are the lifeblood of this project. Seeing everyone come together—sharing a laugh over a thermos of tea and a digestive biscuit—reminds us why this space is so special.
